Septic pumping and services in Bonita Springs

Bonita Springs Utilities and the city are moving neighborhoods such as Sun Village from septic to central sewer, but a home that is not connected still runs on its own tank and drain field. If yours is backing up, overdue for a pump out, or close to its change over, call the office and a real person answers. Our trucks cover Bonita Springs from Fort Myers.

Septic and sewer in Bonita Springs

Central sewer is reaching parts of Bonita Springs, starting with neighborhoods like Sun Village and Lake of San Souci. A home outside those projects, or inside one but not yet connected, still sends every drain to a tank and a drain field in the yard. Being near a sewer project does not change what that tank needs.

Once sewer is available to a property, the utility says it has to be connected within one year. Until that day the tank and drain field are still yours to look after, and they can still back up.

Before your street connects

Treat the tank the way you always have. Have it pumped on its normal schedule, watch for slow drains or a soggy patch over the drain field, and call when something changes. A backup in the last months before a change over is just as unpleasant as any other.

When the connection is made, the old system is retired. In Sun Village, the release form homeowners sign lets the utility’s contractors connect the plumbing and abandon the septic system, so check what your project covers before you book separate work on the tank. If your connection is not part of a project, or the tank needs attention before the change over, call the office.

What the visit looks like

Bonita Springs is a short drive down I-75 from our office in south Fort Myers. Tell us when you call whether your street is in a sewer project and roughly when you expect to connect. On the visit the crew pumps the tank and checks the inlet and outlet while it is open. If the tank is fine but the drain field is struggling, we say so, because a pump out does not fix a field that has stopped taking water.

If the house sits empty for part of the year, have the system checked before everyone comes back. A tank that goes from idle to a full household overnight is when a weak drain field tends to show itself.

Septic in Bonita Springs

Bonita Springs Utilities reports that the main sewer installation in Sun Village Estates is complete. It expects individual home connections from May to November 2026, subject to change, and the septic systems there will be abandoned.

In November 2021 the city received grant awards from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection for septic to sewer work in two neighborhoods, Sun Village and Lake of San Souci. The city and Bonita Springs Utilities are matching the grants.

Once central sewer is available to a property, Bonita Springs Utilities says connection is required within one year under state law and city ordinance. In Sun Village, the release form a homeowner signs lets the utility and its contractors connect the house and abandon the septic system.

Bonita Springs Utilities says taking septic tanks out of service will help limit the nutrients that reach the groundwater and the Imperial River.

Common questions

Do I still need to pump my tank if sewer is coming to my Bonita Springs street?

Yes, until the house is actually connected. The tank keeps filling right up to the day of the change over. If the connection is only weeks away, call and we will talk through whether a pump out makes sense now or can wait.

Do I have to connect when sewer reaches my Bonita Springs property?

Bonita Springs Utilities says yes: once central sewer is available, connection is required within one year under state law and city ordinance. Your utility project notice is the place to check the dates for your street.

What happens to my septic tank when my home connects to sewer?

It is abandoned, which means taken out of service for good. In a utility project like Sun Village, the release form lets the utility's contractors do that, so ask the utility what that visit includes. If your connection is not part of a project, call the office.

How can I tell if my Bonita Springs home is on septic or sewer?

Look at the utility bill first. A home tied in to central sewer is normally billed for wastewater, and a home on septic is not. A lid or a riser in the yard, usually out front, is the other giveaway. If you are still not sure, call and we will help you find out.

Do you work on Bonita Springs businesses too?

Yes. We pump grease traps for restaurants, and we pump and repair septic systems for offices, plazas, and rental properties. It is the same office line for a business as for a home.
